Procession: An Exhibition brings together a collection of
objects from
Procession including a specially commissioned
film of the 5th July
Procession and sixteen hand-made
banners designed by Ed Hall in collaboration with groups taking
part in the Procession. These elements will sit within a lineage of
historical material and folklore; incorporating Mahatma Gandhi,
Jerry Lee Lewis, Yuri Gagarin and The Blackout Crew.

Artist Jeremy Deller creates a scattergun people’s history of
Manchester with legendary ex-Hacienda DJ and author Dave Haslam.
Expect the pair to juggle multiple subjects, from Friedrich Engels
to brass band competitions, George Formby to post-punk.

Did you film or document Procession on Sun 5 July? Have you
captured it on your phone, camcorder or any other device? Do you
have material from processions or parades that you have been
involved in the past that you’d like to share? Drop-in to
Cornerhouse on
either of these dates with your footage or images, as
Lets Go Global will be on hand to help you
upload and share your documentation and archival material through
the Manchester Procession online project. This is also a great
opportunity to find out more about archiving your cine, video and
digital films for free at the
North
West Film Archive.

Salford
Restoration Office for an introductory tour of the exhibition.
With two tour dates, this is a great opportunity to get an insight
into their curatorial challenges and perspectives on putting the
show together with Jeremy Deller.

History in the Making

Banner maker, Ed Hall and banner expert Nick Mansfield, Director of
the Peoples’ History Museum in Manchester, will introduce the
history, uses and symbolism of banners, from 19th century trade
union banners to those Ed Hall designs and makes for contemporary
causes.

Film Archive talks with contemporary filmmakers and members of
local cine-film and video clubs on the value and necessity of
non-professional filmmaking, to document social history, events and
